# How connecting an account works

The three ways of connecting a marketplace to RUIT, which one each platform uses, what happens right after you press connect and where each tutorial is.

RUIT **never asks you for a marketplace password**. Each platform connects in one of three ways,
and the one that applies to you decides almost everything else: what you need to keep open, what
RUIT can do on its own and what happens when something expires. It is all done from
`Linked Accounts`, in the sidebar, with the **Connect Account** button.

## The three ways

- **With the extension**, on **Wallapop and Vinted**. RUIT uses the session open in that browser
every time it needs to talk to them, so **that browser has to be running**.
- **By granting permission**, on **eBay**. You authorize RUIT on eBay's website and come back. RUIT
stores a permission with an expiry date and **renews it by itself**, without depending on any
  browser of yours.
- **With keys**, on **Shopify, PrestaShop, Todocolección and IberLibro**. You paste them into the
form and **they have no expiry date**, so you do not have to renew them. Where they come from
varies: on Shopify and PrestaShop you create them yourself in your store's admin panel; on
IberLibro you get them from your bookseller account; on Todocolección their team gives them to
you when you ask. Shopify has one extra nuance: the key you paste does not expire, but RUIT uses
it to ask Shopify for a short permission, lasting one day, which renews itself whenever it is
  needed.

**WooCommerce supports the last two**: authorizing from the store itself or pasting its keys by
hand.

| Marketplace | How it connects | Tutorial |
|---|---|---|
| Wallapop | With the extension | [Connect Wallapop](https://ruit.es/en/docs/connect-wallapop/) |
| Vinted | With the extension | [Connect Vinted](https://ruit.es/en/docs/connect-vinted/) |
| eBay | By granting permission | [Connect eBay](https://ruit.es/en/docs/connect-ebay/) |
| WooCommerce | By granting permission or with keys | [Connect WooCommerce](https://ruit.es/en/docs/connect-woocommerce/) |
| Shopify | With keys | [Connect Shopify](https://ruit.es/en/docs/connect-shopify/) |
| PrestaShop | With keys | [Connect PrestaShop](https://ruit.es/en/docs/connect-prestashop/) |
| Todocolección | With keys | [Connect Todocolección](https://ruit.es/en/docs/connect-todocoleccion/) |
| IberLibro | With keys | [Connect IberLibro](https://ruit.es/en/docs/connect-iberlibro/) |

> **Warning:** Whichever it is, there is a prerequisite that surprises a lot of people: **the wizard does not open
> until you have verified your phone**.

## Why Wallapop and Vinted need the extension

Because **they have no public API**, and the only way to talk to them on your behalf is from a
browser with your session open.

> **Warning:** That leads to the consequence worth being clear about from day one: those accounts are **tied to
> the browser you connected them from**, and RUIT **does not try another** of yours, so as not to end
> up using another account's session. With that browser closed, it shows in two different ways: if
> you are the one asking for something, it fails straight away and tells you; in the automatic rounds
> the account is simply skipped, **without counting as an error**.

If you have not installed it yet, the step before this one is
[installing the extension](https://ruit.es/en/docs/install-the-extension/).

## What starts by itself when you connect, and what does not

Connecting leaves the account ready to work, but **you launch the import of what you already have
listed yourself**, from the inventory. That is deliberate: this way you decide what comes into RUIT
and when.

What does start by itself is the monitoring. **Wallapop and Vinted** take **an hour** at most to
join order tracking, and from then on they are checked **every 10 minutes**. **WooCommerce and
Shopify** also leave your store set up to report changes the moment they happen, without having to
wait for the next round.

## Reconnecting an account that already exists

It is not duplicated: RUIT recognizes that it is the same one and **updates the existing account**.
Its listings and its orders stay exactly as they were, and the credentials and profile details are
renewed. So is the name: if you had renamed the account, it goes back to your marketplace profile
name whenever the marketplace provides one. RUIT also resets its failure counter, so an expired
account starts again with a clean slate.

> **Tip:** That is why **connecting again is never risky**; what cannot be undone is removing the account.
> When an account shows up as expired, reconnecting it is always the right answer.
