# Publishing your first item with RUIT

Create an item in your inventory and publish it to several marketplaces at once, with the differences worth knowing before you hit publish.

Publishing in RUIT is **two separate steps**: first you create the item in your inventory, then you
choose which accounts to publish it to. The item lives in RUIT, and each listing is a copy of it on a
marketplace, with its own price, its own status and its own link.

## Why are the inventory and the listing different things?

Because the same item sells in several places at once and each one asks for something different. By
keeping them apart, **you change the price or the stock once and RUIT propagates it** to every
listing, instead of forcing you to edit five ads by hand.

## What does an item need before it can be published?

The minimum is **title, description, price, condition and at least one photo**. Beyond that, each
marketplace adds its own requirements, and RUIT asks for them when you publish, not before:

- **eBay** requires a category, business policies and an inventory location already set up in your
  eBay account. The title cannot exceed 80 characters.
- **Wallapop** needs a location on your profile.
- **Vinted** asks for size and brand in fashion categories.

If something is missing, the listing ends in an error state **with the reason written out**, and the
other marketplaces carry on: a failure in one does not block the rest.

## How do I publish to several marketplaces at once?

From the item page, tick the target accounts and press publish. You can also select several items
from the inventory and do it in bulk.

Bulk publishing is capped at **50 listings per job**, counting items × accounts: 10 items across 5
accounts is already 50. If you go over, RUIT splits the work into several jobs. The cap exists so
that one large batch does not take over your connection to the marketplaces and end up triggering
temporary blocks.

## What happens after I hit publish?

Publishing **is not instant**: RUIT queues it and reports the status of each listing. You will see
them move through "pending", "publishing" and "published", with the link to the real ad once it is
done.

When the item sells on one of the marketplaces, RUIT detects it and **takes the other listings down
automatically** if you have auto-delist enabled, so you do not end up selling the same unit twice.
