Our Story
Luis, founder of Ruit, has been buying and selling used items his entire life. As a child, he accompanied his mother to flea markets, and at age 13, he sold over 200 Rubik's cubes at his school. He later studied Physical Engineering, developed satellite algorithms, and worked in digital innovation for Telefónica.
The turning point came in December 2023: after breaking three phones in two weeks, he faced the frustration of searching for second-hand items across multiple platforms simultaneously. This experience gave birth to Ruit.
Why does Ruit exist?
Buying second-hand today is still worse than buying new: you search across several sites, chat with strangers, and never really know the fair price or how much you're saving. Meanwhile, $4-5 trillion worth of goods is thrown away every year. If the only alternative to buying new is a bad experience, second-hand will never be the first choice.
That's why we started with the most actionable side of the problem: the sellers. If we help professional sellers create more supply — better and cheaper — more demand appears and more people choose second-hand. That's how, over the long run, we move the world toward circular consumption.
