Publishing your first item with RUIT

Create an item in your inventory and publish it to several marketplaces at once, with the differences worth knowing before you hit publish.

Publishing in RUIT is two separate steps: first you create the item in your inventory, then you choose which accounts to publish it to. The item lives in RUIT, and each listing is a copy of it on a marketplace, with its own price, its own status and its own link.

Why are the inventory and the listing different things?

Because the same item sells in several places at once and each one asks for something different. By keeping them apart, you change the price or the stock once and RUIT propagates it to every listing, instead of forcing you to edit five ads by hand.

What does an item need before it can be published?

RUIT counts an item as complete when it has a title, a price above zero, a condition, a shipping method and at least one photo. If something is missing it stays flagged as a draft, which is a warning and not a lock: you can try to publish it anyway, and it will be the marketplace that turns it down. The description does not count towards that flag, even though eBay and Vinted do require it when you publish.

Beyond that, each marketplace adds its own requirements, and RUIT asks for them when you publish, not before:

  • eBay requires a category, business policies and an inventory location already set up in your eBay account. The title cannot exceed 80 characters: if yours is longer, RUIT trims it when it fills the form in.
  • Wallapop needs a location: the one on your profile or, if you have not set one, one you pick in the form itself.
  • Vinted asks for size and brand in the categories that carry them, much of fashion among them.

If something is missing, the listing ends in an error state with the reason written out, and the other marketplaces carry on: a failure in one does not block the rest.

How do I publish to several marketplaces at once?

From the item page, tick the target accounts and press publish. You can also select several items from the inventory and do it in bulk.

Bulk publishing is capped at 50 listings per job, counting items × accounts: 10 items across 5 accounts is already 50. If you go over, RUIT does not split the work into several jobs: it rejects the whole job and tells you on the confirmation screen, showing the total you asked for and the maximum. You have to remove items or accounts and send it again. The cap exists so that one large batch does not take over your connection to the marketplaces and end up triggering temporary blocks.

What happens after I hit publish?

It depends on where you publish from. From an item’s page publishing is immediate: RUIT waits for the marketplace and hands you back the listing with its link as soon as it is done. Bulk publishing, on the other hand, is queued, and there you do watch each line move through “Pending”, “Publishing…” and “Published”, with the link to the real ad at the end.

When the item sells on one of the marketplaces, RUIT detects it and takes the other listings down automatically, so you do not end up selling the same unit twice. That switch, the delist, is on by default, and there is a single one for the whole account: you only need to touch it if you would rather turn it off.
